Hey guys! Today I wanted to share with you all my thoughts on my current moisturizer. I’ve been using L’Oreal’s Hydra Genius moisturizer for a little while now, I purchased it back in June and I’m about halfway done the bottle so I thought it was a good time to do a little review.
Let’s first talk about what this moisturizer claims to be/do. It’s said to be a daily moisturizer with liquid care technology for normal to oily skin which can be used day and night. It’s formulated with Aloe water and 3 sources of Hyaluronic to provide continuous hydration and mattify the skin. It also says that it leaves skin looking fresh, healthier and softer over time.
So like it says, I’ve been using it to moisturize my skin both day and night and overall have really been enjoying it! I love the texture, it’s this sort of watery gel-like consistency that feels great on the skin. Whenever I apply it, I always get this cooling and invigorating sensation, almost like I’m just smoothing water over my face. I absolutely love that feeling! Sometimes, when my skin feels a little irritated or when I want to feel even more refreshed I throw it in the fridge for a little bit before using it and I swear it feels like I’ve just left the spa. So yes, I would agree that it leaves the skin looking fresh and healthy since I do notice this after having applied it. You know those commercials where they have the girls dramatically splash their face with water which goes everywhere without getting their hair wet…that’s how it makes me feel.
Something I don’t really agree with is that it mattifies the skin. I really haven’t noticed that my skin looks super matte after using it. My skin is definitely on the oily side so it would be nice to see those effects come through a little more for me, but on the plus side it doesn’t add to my oiliness or leave my skin feeling greasy since it’s water based, so I can’t complain too much on that front.
Ok, let’s talk about the most important feature of a moisturizer. Does it actually moisturize? Yes! My skin does feel moisturized once I’ve used it. I don’t know about “72hrs of continuous hydration” which I think is a little bit of an extreme claim and I don’t go 72 hrs without washing my face and reapplying so I couldn’t tell you. But for the length of time I have it on, I do feel like it does a good job. I tend to think that though my skin is oily, it’s dehydrated. So I feel like it’s been good at keeping moisture in my skin which may be why I feel like my skin is producing a little less oil than usual. I do occasionally feel like I need to apply some more after it’s been absorbed into my skin but I think that’s because I use a conservative amount since it’s so spreadable (that’s really not the word I want to use but you guys get what I’m saying) and I think I’m just used to feeling something on the skin with other moisturizers I’ve used, whereas this one is very light and just gets completely absorbed.
Something else I’ve noticed is that, like it says, my skin does feel quite smooth once I’ve applied it. This is something I notice as soon as I apply but I’m not sure that my skin is smoother overall since I’ve started using it like it claimed to do. I always find it a little hard to speak on claims such as those, because my results may be due to other things as well or the combination of a few changes. But either way, I still think this is a good moisturizer and think that I’ll continue to use it at least for the next little while.
Ok, I’m going to wrap it up. I didn’t think I could talk this much about a moisturizer lol. But like I said, I really have been enjoying it and it gets a pass from me in terms of doing most of what it claims to do. And as a bonus, that bottle is quite fancy and looks great on my counter! Oh and I forgot to mention earlier, they do have one for normal and dry skin types. And finally, you can find it at Shoppers like I did, I think it’s around $24 but it’s often on sale, or at Walmart which I just checked have it for $19.97!
Hope you guys enjoyed this post and found it helpful! Let me know if you’ve tried or will try this moisturizer out! xo
