It snowed 10 cm of snow a couple of days ago. Hibernation season has officially begun. My “how do I get the hell out of here” gears have engaged and I’m already thinking of tropical vacations. I figured now was the perfect time to share my Costa Rica travel diary with you, as I’m sure some of you will be getting that travel bug very soon.

My boyfriend and I went to Costa Rica for the first time earlier this year in February.  We both agreed it was one of our favourite vacations. One, because we opted not to go on a resort, two, we did and saw some pretty cool things and three we ate some seriously yummy food all week!!

Here’s what our week looked like:A04FC30D-030B-476D-B4C2-6CF97711B581

We landed and San Jose and drove up to La Fortuna. By drove up I mean we landed with no confirmed mode of transportation. We were frantically on the phone trying to rent a car but eventually hired a driving service and had someone pick us up from a nearby Denny’s (ya you read that right) and drive us up to La Fortuna.

Arrived at La Fortuna, we stayed at a small hotel (not picture worthy but comfortable enough). That evening began the week of yummy food. We walked the town and came across a restaurant where we tried our first and most delicious ceviche!

The next morning we found a cute place to have breakfast and continued exploring the town. We both loved being immersed in with the locals which is something we haven’t done too much of during our past travels.

Later that day we went for our first excursion to the Arenal Volcano! We hiked one of the trails and followed up with a dip in the hot springs of the Baldi Hot Springs hotel.

Our second morning involved an early wake up time to make it to the La Fortuna falls before the rush. We had a very cold swim there and enjoyed the sights and sounds the falls had to offer.

That evening we drove down to the next city on our list, Jaco! There we checked into an incredible room at the Oceano hotel.

In Jaco, we spent tons of time at the beach, watching the most breath taking sunsets and continued eating the BEST food. If you ever visit Jaco I highly recommend Taco Bar!!

I’ve always wanted to ride ATV’s so we made sure to check that box in Costa Rica. I have no pictures from that excursion but you can check out more from our trip over on my Instagram account. I have videos saved in my Costa Rica highlights.
